Crown of Montenegro

There are many mountain ranges and more than 200 peaks higher than 2000 m in Montenegro but there are 3 main mountain ranges: Durmitor, Komovi and Prokletije (Accursed Mountains). For many people that’s a most beautiful mountains in Montenegro and we share that thoughts. Plan of this short but very demanding tour is to climb highest peaks of that ranges, which are in same time highest peaks in whole Montenegro.
Summary of this tour is very serious: 52 km of walking and 3600 m of gained elevation so it is best suited for experienced hikers in solid shape.

Arriving in Podgorica, start our way to Gusinje or nearest village Vusanje, depending of available accommodation. Dinner.

This day is reserved for highest peak of Montenegro – Zla Kolata 2534 m. This is very demanding hike, not technically but you need to be in solid shape because we have distance of about 25 km and gaining elevation of almost 1700 m. We need to start early, to have enough time to finish our tour at daylight.

After breakfast we are moving to Komovi mountain range. We have about 1h of driving to our destination, Stavna village where is starting point for our today target – Kucki Kom 2487 m which is highest peak in Komovi mountain. Distance is shorter than day before but at final part to summit we have some details – rocky ridge where you need full attention (no climbing and vertical parts). After finish our tour we are moving to nearest town Kolasin, which is 30-40 min driving from mountain. There will be our accommodation for night 3.

After breakfast we are moving to Zabljak, most beautiful mountain town in Montenegro. Plan for today is to take a rest for what is left – highest peak of Durmitor massif, Bobotov Kuk 2523 m. On our way from Kolasin to Zabljak we will make stops to enjoy in stunning nature – Lake Biograd, Tara river canyon, and make lunch stop at Djurdjevica Tara bridge – one of the most beautiful bridges in the world. After lunch we continue to Zabljak and our accommodation, you will have free afternoon for rest. Dinner and overnight at Zabljak.

After breakfast we have transfer to start point of our today hike, car time is 20-25 min. After we arrive at Sedlo pass at 1920 m we start our hike to Bobotov Kuk, first and most serious part of our hike require full attention and careful moving because of exposed terrain but everything is secured with cables. Hike to Bobotov Kuk is one of the most beautiful and popular hikes in Montenegro so it is almost impossible to be there alone. Final part to summit also require full attention but its secured with cables. After 3-4 h from starting point we will be at highest peak of Durmitor and if weather allow, we will have stunning view on almost complete Montenegro. Our way back we will use another route, straight to Black lake and Zabljak which will make our tour much more interesting than using same way back.

After breakfast at Zabljak we will transfer you to Podgorica.
